If your applying for loans and grants through your college, you should not have to worry about your past credit problems. Talk to a financial aid adviser at your school. I had the worst possible credit and so far have received $40,000 in grants and loans. Never a question about my crappy credit score!
MC is correct FAFSA is the way to go. FAFSA is different then other loans they don’t go by your credit, they go by your income.
once you fill out and submit the FAFSA application There should be a page that comes up called “FAFSA on the web Submissions Confirmation. That page is EXTREMELY useful. It will tell you right there if you are eligible for a Pell grant or other fundings… It wont tell you if you are getting them or not, but it will let you know if you your eligible…. then there will be a “What happens Now” part, that”ll tell you well what happens now..

People often forget getting a regular loan and a student loan is very different.As it may not be possible to get a regular loan, it is very possible to get a student loan.
If your credit is bad, getting a loan now-a-days is almost impossible. Your best bet is to ask someone you know with money to make you a loan.

Apply for FAFSA. The loans awarded through FAFSA do not check if you are credit worthy. Good luck!
