They want your credit card just in case!!!
I dont know why they insist on a credit card. They could just refuse to let you download something if you dont have enough money in your account.
It is safe. My credit card has never had fraudulant cards.
If you want to only use gift cards then just make sure you always have enough credit in your account so you never get charged on your card. If you add money from gift cards then it will credit your account and take the money from that credit first and then take any amount over from your credit card. Just dont go over.

Click on your account, then choose edit payment information, then delete your credit information and click done.
If you have a pay pal account that is really the best way to pay for i tunes. Also my favorite ipod trick is to check out CD’s from the library and rip them to my i tunes. Then it is TOTTALY free!!
