Is it legal to do a credit check as a pre employment qualification?

   It is only legal if they have you sign a consent form and disclose the FCRA(fair credit reporting act) statements

   I think it depends on the state laws, but many states allow this practice. I don’t think it’s fair in today’s economy though. Lots of people have defaulted on loans or paid late because they’ve been unemployed a long time. With that said though, I was always able to get good jobs with bad credit, because I always made arrangements or good faith payments when times were tough for me. Still, I don’t think it’s fair. I think I got lucky because I wasn’t tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

   Most places, yes but they have to have you authorize it. But if you refuse they aren’t likely to hire you.
