Debt Relief Archives

I have credit cards debt that i can only pay the minimum on because of high interest rates, i’ve heard alot about the company, “care one” that helps people, does anyone out there deal with them?

I’ve received several offers in the mail claiming to be able to give me debt relief with stimulus money from the government. They seem too good to be true. Are they a scam or is this a legitimate offer?

If the taxes and penalty are prohibitive to taking out 401k money, what if a person normally has no tax burden (EIT credit recipient)? We’re only talking about $5k, for a one-time debt relief related to a divorce. If the penalty is only $500, it may be a useful option, where no other solution is available. Is there something I’m missing?

I owe $20K to the IRS and I’m told that the ” American tax Relief ” will cut my debt in half or less, but I have to put money up front.

My coworker is in short sale with his lender. I am familiar with the Mortgage Debt Relief Act of 2007, but I don’t know if he is in short sale trying to sell the property, if the bank can foreclosure in the process. He is about 2 months behind on the notes. He has about 20 more days before he’ll be 3 months. Does the fact that he is in short sale agreement with the lender keep him from foreclosing? I told him it is better if he can get the short sale to occur rather than foreclosing.

I just heard about Attorney General Cuomo of New York filing a lawsuit against Credit Solutions, the debt relief company. I live in NY and was a customer of Credit Solutions a few years ago. I paid them about 2K overall and they never helped me settle any debt. How do I get involved in the lawsuit?

If you get $50,000 of debt relief from a short sale (lender accepts $20k on a $70k note) is there a tax implication? How is that different from just forfitting the property through foreclosure?

Please don’t answer if you are just guessing – I can do that on my own ;-)

We are specializing in consumer debt relief, contract law, etc and are considering how to attract lawyers in other states. Any ideas?

I want to be able to help people with their financial problems. Budgeting, debt reduction and elimination, basic estate planning and such. I would like to work for one of the non-profit organizations. Not one of those “debt relief” places that take your money and ruin your credit.

I have some bills that need payed off and I have one credit card. My question is if I go or contact a Credit counselor or Debt help business(Careone credit, debt relief agency) will they freeze my credit card account or put it on hold? My debt situation is not bad, but I’ve heard that if you seek help through a business that specializes in credit card debt or collections, they will freeze all of your credit cards. I am slowly building up my credit and I would hate to have them take my card away. Is this true? Any one that has or has had this problem or knows the facts please let me know some options…..Thanks!!!!
