Credit Cards Archives

I just paid off two cards in anticipation of applying for a loan. I’d like those cards to show up as zero balance on my credit report. How often are these reports updated? Should I call them and ask them to send an update? How long will I need to wait for these to be recorded as zero balance. Thanks!

Is there a financial guideline, rule of thumb, etc. for how much credit a person should have via credit cards? I am a responsible user and pay off my balances every month. I often wonder how much credit I should carry beyond my regular spending patterns. Should I keep as much as possible for an emergency, or should I streamline and eliminate extra cards/credit due to the risk of identity theft?

I want to be able to accept credit cards. Take down my clients card number and be able to charge it online w/out a card reader. I also don’t want to use paypal or goggle. And the rate should be the same for personal cards as well as business credit cards. Thanks for the help.

So, for instance what are the number of people carrying 3 or more credit cards? what was their average transaction per month? what was their credit card balance?

Hi everyone.
I’ve been spending alot of time contemplating credit score issues and I am now considering applying for 4 new credit cards at once. However, I plan on never activating the cards for use or charging anything to the accounts.
I know my score will take a big hit for this one day of hard inquiries, but I think that in the long run it will greatly benefit my score because of the large increase in available credit with no increase in used credit.
But at the same time i’ve heard that when I go to apply for a mortgage, the banker will probably notice my available credit and use that against me.
My question is – what are all of the possible downsides of having many credit cards besides the obvious temptation of spending money you don’t really have?

Thanks so much for your help and I’m looking forward to your advice.
Thanks for the great responses – my score averaged from the three bureaus is 736 and all the offers were approved. In all honesty, my company’s stock just hit a 3 year low, so I am going to 0% cash advance the credit into my corporate discount ESPP program and flip the shares. I know this is not encouraged by most corporations – but hey the free money is hard to pass up.
Then I will reimburse the cards and let them sit until I see another opportunity of this sort. Thanks again!

Both personal and small business credit cards would be helpful. Thanks!
I know through personal experience that American Express DOES require a SS# when adding additional cardholders (at least for personal cards), and that Advanta does NOT require a SS# when adding additional cardholders.

Personal experience with additional issuers would be helpful.
Please provide specific credit card issuers. Thanks!

I have 5 credit cards with different limits and rates.I’m in the process of paying them all off, however I know you need to have balances on your cards for healthy credit. How many cards should have a balance and how many should be unused?
@Stephen, if i have no balances, then what’s the point of having credit cards to begin with? How else will I build credit history?

How did credit cards Revolutionize they way we live today?
Do you the history of the credit card?
How do credit cards effect us?
Positively
Negatively?
Thanks!

I’m almost 19 years old and I have had a secured card for about 6 months, and I need more revolving credit. I applied for the Chase Freedom card but got turned down… What cards are good to build my credit for those who are starting out?

Warren Kampf’s Paoli office should be easier to find. The address is East Lancaster Avenue but if you turn down Darby Road then turn again, before the Paoli Fire Company, you’ll find it on the south side of the office complex that half-surrounds the Malvern Federal Savings building.

How many times have you walked into a store – particularly a mom and pop shop – and saw some note taped in front of the cash register that says you can’t pay with a credit card unless you spend at least (fill in the blank) dollars?
